ARTISANS & MAKERS

WE HAVE TAKEN OUR TIME TO CREATE A THOUGHTFULLY DETAILED SPACE AND WE HOPE THAT YOU NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE. WE HAVE SOUGHT OUT LOCAL AND DOMESTIC ARTISANS, WHO ARE THE VERY BEST AT THEIR CRAFT, CARRY THE TRADITION OF HANDMADE GOODS AND WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE THEM BE A PART OF OUR STORY.

►Rick Singleton

Hazel's designers enlisted the talents of Rick Singleton to craft the eclectic custom lighting pieces with floral themes in the dining rooms and bar. Rick realized early that his real passion was in taking found objects and re-purposing them into beautiful and unique lighting fixtures. His work has been hailed by designers and style editors across the country and can be seen in many Washington area restaurants, lounges and private residences.

►Matt McMullen

Visual Artist Matt McMullen painted the floral mural on Hazel's patio. He began his career in the Washington, D.C. area as a freelance illustrator, working with a variety of advertising agencies, design studios and editorial publications. In 1987, he started Propeller Studio, specializing in creative endeavors that involved illustration, mural painting, model/prop fabrication and backdrop painting. Twenty six years and four studio locations later, his business evolved and became Matthew McMullen Creative Arts.

►Kris Mullins

The artwork in the dining room was created by the Neighborhood Restaurant Group's Creative Director Kris Mullins. The mural, a tip of the hat to our neighbors the 930 Club, is a pop culture inspired assemblage featuring images, ideas, artists, and personalities that both inspire and invoke the spirit of the restaurant. Kris has received countless honors, including Father of the Year, courtesy of his incomparable pug Henry.

►K.C. CROMWELL

K.C. CROMWELL, A NORTHERN VIRGINIA BASED GULF WAR VETERAN, CREATED OUR EIGHT WALNUT LAZY SUSANS AND OUR WALNUT BREAD BOARDS. SEEING THE LAZY SUSANS AT THE OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA FARMERS MARKET REIGNITED CHEF ROB’S FONDEST FOOD MEMORIES OF SHARING AND CONVIVIAL CELEBRATIONS. ESCHEWING THE TRADITIONAL APPETIZER AND ENTRÉE MODEL, CROMWELL’S BEAUTIFUL WORK HELPS HAZEL CREATE AN EXPERIENCE THAT EMBRACES SHARING AND PASSING PLATES.

CLOUD TERRE

AMBER KENDRICK’S NORTHERN VIRGINIA BASED CERAMICS STUDIO CLOUD TERRE PROVIDES A HANDFUL OF UNIQUE SERVICES PIECES. SINCE 2009, KENDRICK HAS BLENDED HER PASSION FOR THE DESIGNED OBJECT, TRADITIONAL CRAFT AND ARCHITECTURE. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, SHE AND CHEF ROB WORKED TOGETHER TO CREATE PIECES SPECIFICALLY TO COMPLEMENT OUR DISHES AND SHOWCASE KENDRICK’S MASTERY OF ARTFUL AND FUNCTIONAL DESIGN.

WOOD SORREL WORKSHOP

DIXIE AND HER HUSBAND SALVAGE BARS AND LOG HOUSES FOR HIS MAIN BUSINESS, WUSTER’S TRADITIONAL TIMBER BUILDING. RECENTLY, DIXIE BEGAN CRAFTING UNIQUE PIECES IN HER WORKSHOP ON WUSTER FARM OUTSIDE MONTOURSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA. HER EIGHT COMMISSIONED LAZY SUSANS, MADE WITH RECLAIMED OAK FROM A NEARBY BARN, ECHO OUR KITCHEN’S PHILOSOPHY: CREATE SOMETHING NEW FROM SOMETHING OLD.

HESTAN RANGES

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BASED HESTAN HAS ALREADY MADE A NAME FOR ITSELF WITH SOME OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS KITCHENS IN JUST A FEW YEARS OF OPERATION. WHILE TOURING THE D.C. AREA, THEY WORKED HAND IN HAND WITH CHEF ROB TO DEVELOP A CUSTOM RANGE BUILT FOR THE DEMANDS OF OUR CUISINE. PROUDLY AMERICAN MADE, AND PROUDLY EXCEPTIONAL, HESTAN PROVIDES THE BEST EQUIPMENT TO BACK UP CHEF ROB AND HIS TEAM OF CULINARY EXPERTS.

►DEB RUBBA

OPENING A RESTAURANT BUILDS A FAMILY AMONGST ALL SERVICE AND CULINARY STAFF, BUT IT’S THOSE WE COME HOME TO WHOM WE TRULY WORK FOR. IT’S EVEN BETTER WHEN WE CAN BRING A PIECE OF THOSE, WHO HAVE TRULY MADE ALL THIS POSSIBLE INTO THE RESTAURANT. CHEF ROB’S WIFE, DEB, DESIGNED AND MADE OUR FABRIC BASKETS TO PRESENT OUR COMPLIMENTARY BREAD COURSE TO START EVERY MEAL.
